Xiaomi’s Redmi 17C 5G goes on its first sale in India on October 7 at 12:00 PM IST, available through mi.com, Amazon.in, and Xiaomi retail stores. The 4GB + 128GB variant is priced at ₹20,999, while the 6GB + 128GB model will sell for ₹22,999.
The headline specs follow the familiar budget-5G playbook: a massive 6.9-inch 120Hz display, a 6,000mAh battery with 33W charging, and a 50MP main camera. But the pricing tells the more interesting story — the 17C 5G lands at roughly 68% above the Redmi 17C predecessor’s Indian pricing tier, while the chipset actually steps down from the Dimensity 6400 to the Dimensity 6300.

The price question
The 15C comparison is the elephant in the room. A ~68% generation-over-generation price jump is steep in the budget segment, where every thousand rupees moves buyers between brands. The Dimensity 6300 is a capable 6nm chip, but it sits a tier below the 6400 — so buyers are being asked to pay more for less silicon, with the justification resting on the bigger battery, the 120Hz panel, and 5G connectivity.
Whether that trade lands will be decided on October 7. A fast-selling first sale validates Xiaomi’s bet; a slow one starts the discount cycle early.
Should you buy on day one?
If you want a big-screen 5G phone with marathon battery life under ₹21,000 at launch pricing, the 17C 5G is a reasonable pick — the 6,000mAh battery and 120Hz display are genuine strengths at this price. But if performance-per-rupee is the priority, the outgoing 15C at its discounted pricing deserves a look before committing.
The first sale goes live October 7, 12:00 PM IST on mi.com, Amazon.in, and Xiaomi retail stores.
