Apple’s long-rumored OLED MacBook Pro — expected to be the company’s first laptop with a touchscreen — may not be the dramatic redesign some were hoping for, at least in one dimension.
What Gurman says now
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has walked back his own earlier prediction, saying he doesn’t think the new models “will be significantly thinner in the end.” For reference, the current 14-inch MacBook Pro is 15.5mm thick (1.55–1.62kg) and the 16-inch is 16.8mm (2.14–2.15kg) — so there’s still room for modest slimming and meaningful weight reduction.
What to expect
- Models: 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with OLED touchscreen
- Chips: Apple’s M6 series
- Software: macOS 27.2 pre-installed
- Launch: expected sometime in November
The takeaway
OLED panels are thinner than mini-LED, but Apple seems to be spending that savings on battery and thermals rather than chasing thinness records. A lighter MacBook Pro with a touchscreen and M6 power is still a major update — just don’t expect an Air-like profile.
