Apple Is Reportedly Teaming Up With LG on a Smart Home Push — Doorbell, Lock, Thermostat and More

Apple is quietly building a smart home lineup with LG as its hardware partner, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman — and the product list is already surprisingly concrete.

The lineup is said to include the LG Video Doorbell Wired, Floodlight Cam, Outdoor Cam Plug-In, Smart Deadbolt Lock, Smart Thermostat and a Temperature Sensor. LG has reportedly already sought regulatory approval from the FCC and UL Solutions, and a tipster on X has leaked the actual designs of the lock and thermostat.

The arrangement is classic Apple: LG handles manufacturing and product support while Apple helps shape the design, features and engineering behind the scenes — a playbook Apple has used before with Belkin and Logitech accessories. The benefit is obvious: Apple expands its ecosystem without shouldering the full cost and complexity of producing and supporting a wide range of accessories.

The leaked details are specific. The Smart Deadbolt Lock supports automatic unlocking, tap to unlock, emergency power and master codes, fits standard 2.375″ and 2.75″ brackets and ships with two mechanical keys. The thermostat offers Far Sight Display, humidity and brightness settings, language options and calibrated temperature offsets. The range should support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread and Matter, with the lock adding UWB for its auto-unlock feature.

Don’t expect them in stores tomorrow, though — Gurman says they’re still “at least a few more months” out. But the filings suggest this partnership is further along than anyone realized.
